Case study

Industrial Design, Ma, portfolio

Goal

1

Polish and curate previous school and personal projects into a cohesive portfolio aimed at industrial design masters programs in the UK.

Changes

2

Postgraduate programs assume students have artistic skill, and admission officers are more interested in a student’s ability to think creatively and overcome challenges.

We shifted the focus of this student’s portfolio towards artistic process and documentation. There are sketches, ideation, and rough drafts that narrate their artistic process. With this approach, we can consolidate pieces and focus on what is most important. We also included some fabrication/3D projects to speak to the industrial design focus.

Outcome/acceptances

3

Portfolio was accepted to all programs the student applied for:

  • Royal College of Art, London (RCA) - acceptance rate ets. 18-27%

  • University of the Arts London (UAL) - acceptance rate ets. 22-29%
